ARTIST STATEMENT

Through my work, I celebrate the relationship between humans and the natural world around them.

I work with acrylic paint to translate the blank canvas into an emotion. Hidden under the layers of gesso, there is a story or memory waiting to emerge.

We often close our eyes to think of a fond memory and when we do, a smile comes to our face. What I strive for through my work is to allow you to experience that ‘eye closing memory’ with eyes wide open instead.

Together, let’s embrace the natural world around us and put it on display for all to fall in love with.

She is an animal lover and travel fanatic, which sparks her desire to specializing in pet portraits and landscapes.

When not in her home studio painting, Sierra can be found riding her horses, travelling the world and spending time in the outdoors with her husband, Dan, and their pug, Bug.

Drawing from a wide array of inspiration from local artists to the masters in contemporary and impressionist artists, Sierra strives to improve her skills by constantly learning from and watching others work.

One of her most cherished inspirational quotes comes from her late visual art high school teacher, Debi Bell, who once said, “Sierra, never use black paint. Always use Payne’s Grey or create your own. There should always still be colour in darkness.”
